  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon


  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and 1 1/2 cups sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Shape dough into 1 inch balls and roll them in the remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar mixed with the cinnamon.
  5. Place cookies 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets and flatten slightly.
  6. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are lightly browned.
  7. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
