This easy homemade soft pretzels recipe is a great way to make delicious, chewy pretzels in the comfort of your own home. With just a few simple ingredients and a few easy steps, you can have delicious pretzels in no time.


– 1 1/2 cups warm water
– 2 tablespoons sugar
– 2 teaspoons salt
– 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
– 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
– 2 tablespoons butter, melted
– 10 cups water
– 2/3 cup baking soda
– 1 large egg yolk beaten with 1 tablespoon water
– Coarse salt for sprinkling


1. In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, salt, and yeast. Stir until the yeast is dissolved.
2. Add the flour and melted butter and mix until a dough forms.
3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
5. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
6. Bring the 10 cups of water to a boil in a large pot.
7. Add the baking soda and stir until dissolved.
8. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and roll each piece into a rope about 18 inches long.
9. Form the rope into a pretzel shape and place on a greased baking sheet.
10. Boil each pretzel in the baking soda water for 30 seconds.
11. Remove from the water and place back on the baking sheet.
12. Brush the pretzels with the egg yolk mixture and sprinkle with coarse salt.
13. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
14. Let cool before serving.
