Easy Beef Empanadas

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 package refrigerated pie crust
  • 1 egg, beaten


  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain off any excess fat.
  3. Add the onion, garlic powder, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Add the beef broth and tomato sauce to the skillet. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Remove the skillet from the heat and let cool for 10 minutes.
  6. Unroll the pie crust and cut into 8 circles using a biscuit cutter or a glass.
  7. Place 1/4 cup of the beef mixture in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over the filling and press the edges together to seal.
  8. Brush the tops of the empanadas with the beaten egg.
  9. Bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. Serve warm.
