  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon


  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and 2 cups of sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the sour cream. Beat until just blended.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan. In a small bowl, combine the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Sprinkle the mixture over the top of the cake.
  5. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
