- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced

- 1 teaspoon garam masala

- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (15 ounces) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1 cup basmati rice
- 2 cups water
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the cumin, coriander, garam masala, turmeric, ginger, chili powder, black pepper, and salt. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Add the tomatoes, chickpeas, and peas. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Meanwhile, bring the rice and water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.
- In a small bowl, combine the yogurt and cilantro. Set aside.
